When a Notion Sensor detects an event in your home, it sends a message to the bridge through a wireless radio. The bridge sends the information to our servers over the internet via your WiFi router. Our servers check your notifications preferences and then decide if we should send a push notification to your phone for the event.
All of this means that you need to have a working internet connection in your home for Notion to accurately detect events like a door opening or a water leak under your sink.
To get technical: information moves between the sensors and the bridge using a proprietary 802.15.4 protocol. This allows the bridge to communicate with many different sensors in a single network.
